KANNAWIDAN BEFORE, ILOCOS SUR FESTIVAL NOW!
It is anticipated that all of the Ilocos Sur cities, towns, and municipalities would begin to make preparations for the Ilocos Sur Festival, formerly known as the Kannawidan Festival, on February 2nd, exactly. Every year, the Philippines' province of Ilocos Sur celebrates its founding anniversary with this celebration. Every city, town, and municipality's citizens get together to participate in a variety of activities that call for cooperation, solidarity, patriotism, and teamwork.
Participants would spend their time taking part in a variety of festival-related activities, such as the motorcycle racing that took place on the road beside Sta. Catalina coast. A fun run, fur procession, and horse racing are all anticipated.
However, I want to first discuss the history of the Ilocos Sur Festival before moving on to its current topic. It was known as Kannawidan Ylocos before it was renamed as the Ilocos Sur Festival. The name "kawanawidan" is derived from the word "tawid," which in English means "tradition, legacy, and heritage," according to Ilocos Sur history. In addition, the festival was originally introduced in 2008, during the administration of Deogracias Victor Savellano.

Now, going back to the main topic, how does this festival contribute to the improvement of the province? To tell it to you, since then, the festival has been very important since it has allowed the people of Ilocos Sur to display their native goods, artwork, and craftsmanship. Additionally, it encourages respect for and appreciation of the regional heritage, culture, and customs in each Ilocos Sur town. In addition, it is important since it strengthens the regional travel and tourism sector.
How's that even possible? The thing is, everything is possible here in Ilocos Sur!
The brotherhood, sportsmanship, teamwork, unity, emotional closeness, faith and religiosity, as well as community solidarity, continue to be developed and promoted through a variety of activities like traditional games, cultural shows, fireworks displays, entertainment, comedy nights, food festivals, pet shows, competitions, and other enjoyable events.
Additionally, a platform for the one-town, one-product program is available for promotion. Partuat ken Patanor is an annual agricultural and commerce fair where each town in Ilocos Sur displays its products, including food, handicrafts, souvenirs, and other stuff. Bibingka (rice cake), bagnet (deep-fried pork), longanisa (sausage), and tinubong (dessert composed of rice flour mixed with other ingredients and filled into the node of a bamboo shoot to be grilled) are among the well-known dishes.
The Ilocos Sur Festival has a competition for beauty, style, and intelligence aside from the product promotion. The Miss Ilocos Sur and the LGBT Festival Queen are competing in this pageant. The candidates are representatives of the province's local government entities. They participate in a variety of pageant competitions, with the selection of the winners based on their intelligence, style, and charm.
In summary, the Ilocos Sur community greatly values the Kannawidan Festival, also known as the Ilocos Sur Festival. It encourages development, patriotism, harmony, friendship, and peace among the populace. It not only displays the industry's flow but also inspires the next generation to learn the Ilocos Sur province's native songs and dances. Truly that it is where the past, present, and the future collide.
